A massive clean energy project worth 14 billion yuan ($2 billion) is to be developed in Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Industrial Development Zone -- in Baotou city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- with a framework agreement signed on Feb 14, according to a report in the Baotou Daily.

The project, funded by GD Power Inner Mongolia New Energy Development Co, is to develop and construct an integrated wind-solar storage clean energy demonstration project with a scale capacity of 1,000-2,000 megawatts.

After the project is completed, the annual power generation will be around 7.2 billion kilowatt hours, which is the equivalent of the output of two coal-fired power plants for more than a year.

Based in the autonomous region, GD Power Inner Mongolia New Energy Development Co is a large-scale company focusing on boosting the development of new energy in the autonomous region.

With the agreement signed, the company will cooperate with Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Industrial Development Zone to jointly build a smart and clean energy demonstration zone.

Officials said this will realize the development of large-scale wind power, photovoltaic or solar power, hydrogen, energy storage and clean energy heating projects.
